COUPLES THERAPY
Couples therapy is aimed at helping partners in a romantic relationship improve their communication, resolve conflicts and deepen emotional intimacy.
It can be beneficial at any stage of a relationship, from dating and cohabiting to long-term marriages.
Core Elements of Couples Therapy:
- Assessment: In early sessions, I will assess each partner’s concerns, relationship history, and patterns of interaction. This may involve joint and individual sessions.
- Communication Skills: Many couples struggle with how. Therapy focuses on teaching active listening, expressing feelings constructively and breaking negative cycles like blame or withdrawal.
- Conflict Resolution: Partners learn strategies to manage disagreements in healthier ways, such as identifying underlying needs and finding common ground rather than “winning” arguments.
- Emotional Insight: I help partners understand the emotional roots of their behaviors—such as past wounds, attachment styles, and unmet needs—that negatively influence the relationship.
- Behavioral Change: I help couples work on changing specific behaviors that hurt the relationship, like defensiveness, rebuilding trust after infidelity, or reconnecting through shared time and affection.
- Goal Setting: Therapy is usually structured around clear goals, whether it’s improving intimacy, planning the future or learning to co-parent more effectively.
