Long Island Couples Counseling

Hello, I’m Dr. Faye Lennon

I’m a Clinical Psychologist and Imago Relationship Therapist with more than thirty years of experience supporting individuals and couples across Long Island through a wide range of emotional and relational challenges.

Over the years, I’ve seen how even deeply committed relationships can become strained under the weight of miscommunication, unresolved experiences, and the demands of everyday life. Many couples come to me feeling disconnected, caught in repeating patterns, or unsure how to find their way back to one another.

My work as a counselor focuses on helping couples understand what is happening beneath these patterns. I guide partners away from assigning blame and towards a greater awareness of their dynamic, helping them communicate more effectively and rebuild meaningful emotional connections.

Using the structured framework of Imago Relationship Therapy, I incorporate evidence-based techniques that allow both partners to feel heard, respected, and understood. Together, we explore the underlying experiences and emotional responses that may be driving conflict, while developing practical tools to support healthier, more constructive interactions.

While issues such as stress, anxiety, trauma, and life transitions can place strain on a relationship, my focus in  couples counseling is on helping partners work together more effectively and create a stronger, more resilient foundation moving forward.

I believe that relationships have the capacity to grow and heal when both individuals are given the space, support, and tools to truly understand one another. My goal is to provide a calm, balanced environment where meaningful change can take place, and where couples can move toward a deeper sense of connection and partnershi

Helping couples in Long Island rebuild connection

Couples counseling offers a supported space where partners can break down difficult conversations, feel genuinely heard, and begin to understand what may be driving emotional disconnection.
As part of couples therapy with Dr. Faye Lennon, partners are guided through a clear, supportive process that encourages active listening, thoughtful reflection, and awareness of the deeper emotions influencing conflict.

Areas of focus often include:

The focus is not on determining who is right or wrong, but on helping you both feel understood while creating a more respectful and productive way of communicating.
If this feels like the kind of support your relationship may need, you’re in the right place.

Frequently Asked Questions About Couples Counseling

It is understandable to feel unsure about whether therapy is the right step for your relationship needs. Here are answers to some common questions you may have.

Couples come to counseling for many different reasons. Some are experiencing frequent conflict or difficulty communicating, while others feel emotionally distant, disconnected, or caught in relationship patterns they cannot seem to change.

Many couples worry that therapy may create another opportunity for disagreement, but my role is to help create a more productive and supportive conversation. Using a structured approach based on Imago Relationship Therapy, I help couples slow down, listen more deeply, and better understand each other’s perspectives. The goal is to build connection and understanding, even when addressing challenging topics.

Conflict-based communication difficulties are one of the most common reasons couples seek support. When emotions become intense, it can be challenging to feel heard or understood. The process I use helps couples recognize behavioral patterns and develop healthier ways to communicate.

No. My role is not to determine who is right or wrong within the relationship. Instead, I provide a balanced environment where both partners have the opportunity to express themselves and feel understood. Greater connection often begins when couples learn to respect each other’s experiences, even when their perspectives differ.

There is no set number of sessions because every relationship is different. Some couples come to counseling to address a specific concern and find that shorter-term support is beneficial. Others choose to spend more sessions exploring deeper patterns and longstanding relationship challenges. Together, we will determine an approach and pace that reflects your needs and goals

Ideally, both partners should be open to participating, but many couples begin counseling feeling frustrated or unsure about what they want for the future. You do not need to have all the answers before reaching out, because therapy creates a supportive space to explore concerns, improve understanding, and gain clarity about your relationship.

Yes. Couples do not always begin therapy knowing exactly what direction they want their relationship to take. Some hope to rebuild their connection, while others are trying to understand whether staying together is the right choice. Counseling enables couples to approach these decisions with greater awareness and respect. When separation is chosen, therapy can also support healthier communication, especially when children are involved.

Yes. Premarital counseling helps couples create a stronger foundation for their marriage. It provides a safe space to discuss communication styles, shared values, expectations, future plans, and potential challenges before they become larger sources of conflict.

I work with married couples, dating couples, engaged couples, long-term partners, LGBTQ+ couples, same-sex couples, and interfaith couples throughout Long Island. Every relationship has its own history and needs, and counseling is tailored to support each couple’s unique circumstances and goals.
