New York Couples Counseling

Hello, I’m Dr. Faye Lennon

I’m a Clinical Psychologist and Imago Relationship Therapist with several decades of experience working with individuals and couples throughout New York, helping them navigate complex emotional and relationship challenges.

In my work, I’ve seen how even strong relationships can become strained by miscommunication, unresolved feelings, and the pressures of daily life. Couples often arrive feeling distant from each other, frustrated by recurring conflicts, or unsure how to reconnect in a way that feels genuine and lasting.

My approach is centered on helping couples understand what is happening beneath these patterns. Rather than focusing on who is right or wrong, I support both partners in gaining insight into their dynamic, improving communication, and rebuilding emotional closeness.

As a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist, I use a structured, evidence-based process that helps each partner feel heard, validated, and respected. Together, we explore the beliefs, experiences, and emotional responses that may be contributing to conflict, while developing the skills to create more constructive and supportive interactions that help the relationship move forward.

While challenges such as stress, trauma, anxiety, and major life transitions can impact a relationship, my focus in  couples counseling is helping partners learn how to work together to build a stronger, more connected future.

I believe that meaningful change is possible when couples are given the right support and space to better understand one another. My goal is to create a grounded, supportive environment where couples across New York can move toward greater clarity, connection, and partnership.

Creating understanding for couples in New York

Couples counseling creates a structured environment where partners can learn to have difficult conversations in a manner that they both feel heard and begin to understand what lies beneath the conflict within the relationship.
During counseling sessions with Dr. Faye Lennon, couples are guided through a consistent, supportive process that fosters active listening, reflection, and deeper awareness of the factors behind emotional disconnection.

The process often includes:

The aim is not to decide who is right, but to help both partners feel understood and to create a more respectful, mutually beneficial way of relating to each other.
If this resonates with what you’re looking for, you’re in the right place.

Frequently Asked Questions About Couples Counseling

Starting couples counseling can bring up many questions and uncertainties. Here are answers to some common questions to help you better understand the process.

Every couple seeks counseling for different reasons. Some are navigating ongoing disagreements or communication challenges, while others come because they feel disconnected, lonely, or unsure how to move beyond recurring relationship struggles.

Many couples are concerned that therapy will turn into another difficult conversation. Instead, sessions are designed to create a safer and more structured way to communicate. Through an Imago Relationship Therapy approach, I guide couples in slowing down, listening with greater intention, and understanding the emotions beneath their reactions. The goal is to create more meaningful connections and mutual understanding.

Many couples begin therapy because conversations have become difficult or easily escalate into conflict. When emotions are strong, it can be hard to truly listen to one another. Counseling helps couples move away from unhelpful cycles and develop more respectful, effective communication. You do not need to have these skills in place before starting.

No. Couples counseling is not about deciding who is at fault. I work to create a fair and supportive space where both partners can feel heard and respected. Understanding each other’s experiences is often the first step toward creating positive changes within the relationship.

The length of counseling varies because no two relationships are the same. Some couples seek support for a specific challenge and benefit from a shorter period of therapy, while others choose to work through deeper relationship patterns over time. Together, we will create a pace that feels appropriate based on your goals, concerns, and circumstances.

It is helpful for both partners to be willing to participate, but many couples begin therapy feeling uncertain or unsure about the future of their relationship. You do not need to know exactly what you want before starting counseling. The process can help you explore concerns, develop understanding, and gain clarity about the next steps.

Yes. Couples counseling can be helpful whether your goal is to strengthen the relationship or better understand what comes next. Some couples come hoping to reconnect, while others are considering separation and need support navigating that decision. Therapy can help couples communicate more thoughtfully and, when needed, move through separation in a more respectful way.

Yes. Premarital counseling helps couples prepare for marriage by creating space to discuss important topics such as communication, expectations, values, future goals, and areas where differences may arise. Addressing these conversations early can help build a stronger foundation for your marriage.

I work with a wide range of relationships, including married couples, dating couples, engaged couples, long-term partnerships, LGBTQ+ couples, same-sex couples, and interfaith couples throughout New York. Each couple brings their own experiences and goals, and counseling is personalized to meet their unique needs.
